Free Zoo Day

On the last Wednesday of the month during the winter months our local zoo does a free zoo day. Since we didn't get a chance to go this summer we decided to go check it out the last Wednesday in February. We checked Michael out of school (it was a free attendance week at the end of the 2nd trimester so he could miss PLUS he earned his 2nd award for attendance, grades and service so thought this would be a good "treat").

We got there right when the zoo opened at 9 and of course it was CRAZY but luckily we were able to find a spot in the main lot. Michael was bummed they didn't have the Lego exhibit they had over the summer. It was a lot of fun albeit a little crowded.

Jennie was extremely infatuated with the desert foxes. She stood there for a good 10 minutes talking to them, peeking in the glass and dancing when Michael sang the "What does the Fox say?" song.

I'll admit it was a little nice to go to the zoo when it wasn't so hot.

Bobsled

The kids were bored and feeling creative one afternoon so they turned an empty over the range microwave box into a bobsled. After they created their bobsled they decided to race it down the stairs. Luckily we only have half flights. I also insisted that Jennie could not ride in said bobsled. They even took it over to their babysitter's house and showed off for her.

Coloring

One of the things all of the kids agree is super fun is coloring. All four of them like to sit down together and color. Here are a couple pictures of a recent gathering (notice Jennie is the only one looking at the camera).

Hockey Game

I took the boys to their first hockey game--our local team is the Utah Grizzlies (ECHL affiliate of the Anaheim Mighty Ducks). Kaden kept calling it "air hockey" (we have an air hockey table at home). The tix were free with our Pass of All Passes. Parking was a challenge though. As our seats were free they were pretty high up BUT we got the first row in the upper section AND the end of the row so not bad. They also got to see their mascot Grizzbee. All in all it was a fun afternoon.

Saying Goodbye

This month one of our neighbors moved up north due to an employment change. Three out of four of my kids were pretty sad--Michael has been friends with their 2 older boys since we moved here (1 is just 2 months older than him)--their mom even babysat him for a little while. The twins will miss their youngest kids. Their mom shared this pic of all of them playing together a few days before they moved. We will miss them but wish them the best of luck in their new adventures!

Here are some pics of Michael and the boys over the years:

Digging for Dinosaurs

One of the things Michael was really excited about that he got for Christmas were his dinosaur kits. They are really cool--the kids have to dig up the bones and put them together.

BYU Night at the Museums

On Friday, I took the boys to BYU for their Night at the Museums event. It was a progressive event featuring four campus museums (EIZ, Bean, Paleontology and the Museum of People and Cultures). Each museum offered a food item at their location (appetizer, pizza, dessert and mocktails). It was really fun. The boys liked the Bean taxidermy animals and the dinosaurs at the Paleontology--one of the students found a dinosaur bone fragment while we were there. The boys couldn't believe how many people were there and how much pizza was ordered for the event (that was their favorite with the brownies being a close second). Michael said he'd love to come back and ride his bike on campus sometime.
