Scottish Festival

On Saturday we had the opportunity to attend the Scottish Festival in Payson. We went for the first time last year but because we waited until Jeremy was off work it was closing up by the time we got there so we didn't get to see much. This year he took the afternoon off so we could eat lunch there and enjoy more activities.

We found out information about the clan we are in (Clan Bell) as well as partook of some Scottish food (fish and chips, etc.). Jeremy was bummed to find out they had corned beef and cabbage AFTER we had already eaten.

This year we also bought some Welsh cakes. We got chocolate chip, cranberry orange and blueberry ones. They were so yummy. We even took some home to warm up and eat for breakfast.

Next year we will be more strategically prepared to look at all of our food options and try to get there early enough to catch the parade. Jeremy is interested in buying full on backpipes and taking lessons. The chanter I bought him just isn't doing it for him anymore.

Fourth of July

On the Fourth of July we went to Kneader's for breakfast, watched the Freedom Festival parade on TV and then in the evening we had a picnic and watched Lehi City's fireworks at Thanksgiving Point. Carl got a few pictures of the kids. It was a great day spent with friends and family while being thankful for our country.

Colonial Festival

Since Michael is really into the Colonial period of American History (amazingly due to playing Assassins Creed as it's set in Colonial era Boston) I thought it would be fun to take him to the Colonial Festival over the Fourth of July weekend. It is one of the largest re-enactment festivals West of the Mississippi River. His cousins Madilyn and Jocelyn came along. They got to see authentic costumes, weapons and learn about things such as medicine, soap making and even attended colonial school. We even got to see a naturalization ceremony for people who were sworn in as new American citizens. Afterwards we went to McDonald's. The kids had a good time and learned about American history at the same time.
