Michael woke up 10:30 p.m. Wednesday night screaming that "his tummy hurt." Needless to say we didn't sleep much as this happened every 10 minutes all night. The next morning we took him to our primary care physician who referred us to the hospital for further tests to rule out it being his appendix (I know, crazy for a 2 year old, huh?). So, 24 hours later we ended up at Primary Children's Hospital with him coming out of surgery where they took out his Meckel's diverticulum (like a "second appendix" but a growth in the bowel--it had perforated and caused appendicitis like symptoms), resectioned his bowel and took out his appendix as a precaution.
Michael was admitted Thursday night and came home Monday afternoon. He went through an ultrasound, x-rays and CT scan to get the diagnosis in addition to IVs, oxygen, antibiotics, nurses and doctors during the healing process. What a brave kid! The first meal he requested on Sunday was macaroni and cheese, chicken nuggets and french fries. He is home for a week recovering and has to go back on the 19th for followup. In addition to the surgery, we also found out he had strep throat! What a brave kid!

Michael with the oxygen--he sure didn't like it when he needed it!
