Tuesday was the 32 week ultrasound and my first non-stress test. The NST went well--they moved a lot and I had no contractions. In regards to the ultrasound, we found out Kimberlee is now 4 lbs. 1 oz. and Kaden is 4 lbs. 5 oz. She is curled up on my left side and he is stretched out on my right side (he kicks my c-section scar and lower extremities).
They also had me report my first week of blood sugar numbers and submit my food diary. This part did not go as well--apparently I haven't been eating enough carbs at lunch and dinner and my levels are too high so they put me on glyburide pills (they wanted to do insulin shots but I begged them to try this first).
My specialist reminded me this is not my fault and is very common among mothers of multiples because the body is only concerned with baby making not me and the larger size of the placenta causes insulin resistance. In almost every case the moment the placenta is delivered, the diabetes comes to an end but I will have a 50% chance of having it with all future pregnancies. Although I am at a higher risk for getting Type 2 Diabetes in 5-10 years due to having several of the risk factors (weight, family history)--this gestational diabetes has been a good wake up call to make some lifestyle changes.
