Kimberlee

So as most of you know from Facebook or talking to Jer, Kimberlee spent a week and a half at the NICU in Provo. She was only with us for about ten hours after delivery before they sent her there via LifeFlight.

It has been hard not seeing her and getting to bond with her like I have with Kaden who I've seen at least every 2-3 hours since he was born to get him nursing. I started sending her milk as soon as it came in. Due to visitor restrictions and all of the stuff on her, it was hard for people to see her as they could not even hold her.

The day I got out of the hospital (last Thursday) I went to Provo to see her for the very first time. That was the first day they had taken out her IV and she was able to be held. What a sweet experience. I tried breastfeeding but she wasn't getting the hang of it. After that we have stuck to bottles--they gave her banked milk until I sent mine and then supplemented her on Similac.

It was very hard to go down and see her because we had to get a babysitter for the other two kids every time. She was discharged on Tuesday. I had to go down to Provo and do "rooming in" to get familiar with her oxygen and equipment--they wanted both of us to go down for 12 hours but wouldn't let us have Kaden overnight so they were willing to let one of us do it for 8-12 hours and train the other. Well, I got there at 6 p.m. and didn't get into the room with her until 11:30 so they didn't count it as being enough time. We were so upset. Luckily, the nurses went to bat for us and made it so I only had to go down and do the second part from 3:30-6:30 p.m. Jer was so upset about the wasted gas that I just took her home by myself rather than driving two separate cars home that night or leaving one to be picked up later.

She has been gaining weight which is good but seems to be unable to wean off the oxygen--she only needs 1/32, a TRACE which is frustrating. Today was her 48 hour discharge visit--they are hoping to take her off her oxygen as early as next Tuesday if she passes the saturation test. She is very interactive and more involved than Kaden. Currently, we are feeding her breast milk via a bottle as she doesn't seem to get the breastfeeding down and we don't want to stress her. We are just glad to finally have her home.
