Real Salt Lake Home Opener

The home opener on March 26 was one of five games included with our Salt Lake Pass of All Passes ($39.95 for 5 RSL soccer games (2 were preseason--went to 1, 4 Utah Grizzlies hockey games, all 9 Utah Blaze arena home football games and season admission to Raging Waters Salt Lake) so I had to get up and get down to the stadium first thing in the morning. Unfortunately I overslept and had to go to the store so I got there a little later than I'd hoped. It was very chilly and I was past the VIP entrance in the line at the west ticket windows. There was also an equally long line at the east ticket window at the front of the stadium. I got there at 9:30 and by the time the ticket office opened at 10, the line went all the way to 9400 S. The employees wouldn't say how many tickets they were holding for passholders to attend the already sold out game but by the time I got to the front of the line 1 hour and 15 minutes later, I'd heard 2,100 and only singles were left. I paid a $10 upgrade per ticket and got into the lower seats on the northwest corner. These are normally $40 so a great price to see David Beckham and the LA Galaxy at a sold out match.

Here is the view from the upgraded seats: Section 23, Row U

Again, we got a babysitter for the twins. The weather looked really cold and we wanted to eat prior to the game if at all possible so we left at 5 p.m. We parked at Jordan HS and walked down (it's free there). We tried to get into the Mayan but we waited 50 minutes and they still hadn't called us (they told us a 30-45 minute wait) so we left there at 6:30 and went to the game. So much action happened right at the beginning so we're glad we did!

We ate Millcreek Pizza at the game (it wasn't that good) and had Sierra Mist and hot chocolate. We were all bundled up in our winter coats and had our stadium blanket as well. It rained the majority of the game so we were glad we were not seated in the north or south goal as they were open to the elements. We got a free Xango sample and Michael wanted to drink it so we let him have it. He was mad that he didn't have any Real apparel since we both have shirts and a scarf. Note to self: we will have to get him a shirt. The other free games on the pass are April 13 (vs. Colorado) and September 28. We might try to go to some other games in between since they are all on Saturdays but will likely have to go Colonel's corner ($14) or some Groupon/City Deals promos to go since we can't afford $25+ a ticket or to buy season tickets (they start at $399 each--ouch!).

The final score was 4-1 and we all won "Breakfast with the King" at Burger King--a free croissant breakfast sandwich if we present our ticket stub at BK. Don't know how long this is good for but we will shoot for Saturday again.

Here is the highlight video of the fourth and final goal--Goal! Real Salt Lake 4, Los Angeles Galaxy 0. Paulo Araujo Jr. (Real Salt Lake) scores on the run from a Fabian Espindola pass and bad defense from the Galaxy. The sell out crowd also set an all-time attendance record--there were 20,500 fans at the game. By the way, we were ten rows up from where Espinola was when he made the assist to Paulo.
