Riley's New Collar

The other day, one of the neighbor kids came and knocked on the door--she told me that Riley was loose. I'd just hooked him up out in the backyard so I was a little perplexed. Right when I went to put my shoes on and grab a leash to go get him, I heard Riley scratching at the back door. He was neither wearing a collar nor was he hooked to his chain. I found his collar broken and hooked to his chain halfway across the backyard.

A few days before this, we were attacked by 2 neighborhood dogs while we were out on a walk (this happens at least once a month because nobody keeps their dogs fenced or tied up around here apparently). Riley got off his leash and out of his collar--it turns out he was so distraught over the 2 dogs attacking us that he tried to flee the situation and wiggled out of his collar. I don't know if this contributed to the break or if maybe it was due to the fact that he's had that collar since we got him and he is 5 years old. Luckily, we bought one 6 months ago that was too big for our puppy Chip and it works for Riley.
